  Igen tisztelt Uram !  
  A M. T. Akadémiának szerencséje volt folyó 1868 mártius 18-án tartott nagy-gyűlésében Kegyedet, a bölcsészetti és társadalmi tudományok mezején szerzett kitűnő érdemei elismeréséül külső levelező taggá választani.  
  Élénk örömömre szolgál tolmácsolni azon nagyrabecsülést melylyel a Magyar Akadémia Kegyed személyében a tudomány egyik legérdemesb és leghiresb előmozdítója iránt viseltetik, s melynek jeléül az illető oklevelet ide mellékelni szerencsém van.

  Most Honoured Sir,  
  The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in their General Meeting of 18. March 1868, have had the honour to choose You, most honoured Sir, as Corresponding Member abroad, in regard of Your highly distinguished merits in philosophical and social sciences.  
  It is on my side a particular pleasure to give words to this proof of high respect the Hungarian Academy owe to one of the worthiest and most renowned promoters of science in Your person, and as a proof of their consideration to join hereby the respective Diploma.
